Postcards

Bulawayo Pictorial Postcard Depot

The Bulawayo Pictorial Postcard Depot were one of many photographic postcard companies quick to see the potential buying power of visitors to the Falls. By November 1904 they produced a Letter Card booklet (print run 2,000) containing ‘a few gems from Rhodesia’ - a series of 12 photographic postcards of the Falls. The booklet encourages the traveller to “purchase these Letter Cards in order that visitors may take them up to the Falls and send them away through the Victoria Falls Post Office to their friends” (Shepherd, 2008).

The set of 12 cards:

- A Peep At Victoria Falls from The End Of North Bank.
- Boat Arrival At Kandalia Island, Zambesi.
- Bridge In Construction On Jan. 1905, Victoria Falls.
- Livingston’s Drift.
- Looking Towards The Falls From Kandalia Island.
- Main Falls From The Rain Forest, Victoria Falls.
- Rainbow At Victoria Falls And Part of Devil’s Cateract in Foreground.
- Spray, Etc., From North bank, Victoria Falls.
- The Devil’s Cataract, Victoria Falls.
- The Gorge, Victoria Falls, Zambesi.
- Victoria Falls After Crossing In The Blondin.
- View Of The Gorge From The Hotel.
